Morish Nuts Swan Valley
Home to fabulous food, fantastic experiences and the oldest vineyards in WA, the Swan Valley is not to be missed.
Located just a 25 minute drive from Perth, you’ll soon be a world away from the City’s hustle and bustle as you enter the picturesque region, a seemingly infinite landscape of lush green vines before you.
There will be roadside stalls packed with freshly picked fruit and veg – think plump strawberries, fiery red tomatoes and flavoursome figs – and sign after sign inviting you left and right, this way and that to a plethora of world class wineries. What takes your fancy? A crisp, clean white? A full-bodied red? Or how about one of the region’s famous fortifieds? As a premium wine region, the Swan Valley produces a stellar range of varieties and styles, including Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Petit Verdot , Grenache and Shiraz. Expect a warm Mediterranean welcome from the third and fourth generation descendants of Croatian and Italian migrants who own many of the region’s wineries; they love to warmly welcome visitors at the cellar door as though they are old friends.
The Swan Valley, however, is no one-trick pony; it’s also home to some of the finest restaurants and cafes in WA. The Swan Valley holds the honour of being the first official Humane Food Region in Australia. This means the chefs and producers here are a compassionate bunch who have committed to producing and serving humane food, including free-range pork and fresh cage free eggs, in their restaurants and cafes. As you can imagine, this means when you eat in the Valley – whether a cooked brekkie, a genteel high tea or robust degustation – you will be treated to some of the tastiest, most wholesome produce in WA.
Did we mention the breweries? If you love sitting under a blue sky with a pint of handcrafted beer in hand, you’re in luck; the Valley is home to a burgeoning band of boutique breweries, bars and distilleries. And if you have a sweet tooth, well, you’ve come to the right place for food tastings. The Swan Valley is where you’ll find gourmet factories churning out tons of award-winning delectable treats such as Morish Nuts, nougat, ice-cream, honey and chocolate.
If you’re keen to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, we’ve got more good news: the Swan Valley is fast becoming the Master Class capital of Australia. Become a barista for a day, harvest and cook your own asparagus, make your own cheese or even blend your own wine!
Kids adore the Swan Valley attractions, thanks to an abundance of parks, playgrounds and safe cycling paths. There are farm animals to cuddle and feed, a reptile park to meet scaly friends, wagon rides to enjoy, putting greens to play on and all kinds of famous native fauna to marvel over at the many wildlife sanctuaries.
